Tenure Track in Computer Science

Taylor University is seeking applications and nominations of distinctive candidates for a faculty appointment to a tenure track position in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering beginning in August 2023. Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a personal, vibrant faith and Christian walk and be strongly committed to the educational mission and evangelical Christian orientation of the University. An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a field of computer science is preferred. We are open to candidates with postgraduate degrees in cyber security, computer science, or related field such as analytics, data science, and artificial intelligence. Candidates with relevant postgraduate coursework and significant relevant professional experience are welcome to apply. Excellence in teaching is important. Previous teaching experience is beneficial. Evidence of active and ongoing scholarship is desirable. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses for majors and non-majors depending on their expertise that could include some of the following: first-year introductory programming or computer science overview courses, full-stack web programming, databases, theory of computation, parallel and distributed programming, project courses, cybersecurity, machine learning, information systems, as well as elective courses in the applicant’s area of specialization. The candidate will be expected to teach a full-time teaching load with potential for reduction in the first year while acclimating to the university. The successful candidate will be encouraged to engage in research and other forms of scholarship that involve undergraduate students. The appointee will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Standard faculty duties such as advising, committee assignments, and scholarly activity are expected.

Department

The CSE Program consists of eight faculty members who serve over 180 students majoring in Computer Science, Computer Science-Digital Media, Computer Science-Cybersecurity, and majors with an Information Systems and Analytics or Data Science component, as well as providing instruction for students in general education and service courses. The Computer Engineering degree has been ABET-accredited since 2007. CSE is housed in the 127,000 square foot LEED Gold certified Euler Science Complex that opened in 2012 and has 4 labs with 90 dual-boot Windows/Linux workstations and access to 3D printers, a laser cutter, CNC machine, and other engineering equipment. Departmental faculty have expertise in algorithms, artificial intelligence (including machine learning), cybersecurity, graphics, information systems, networks, operating systems, software engineering, and full-stack web development.

International trips with students are common in cooperation the Taylor Center for Missions Computing. Recent research includes funded work in the defense sector. Faculty and students have also been involved in a number of nano-satellite projects funded by a variety of government and private agencies.
